exsouvenir: libraryland: The typed manuscript of Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four Orwell wrote most of Nineteen Eighty-Four on the island of Jura, Scotland during 1947–1948 while critically ill with tuberculosis.  He died less than a year after its publication.  His gravestone bore the simple epitaph: “Here lies Eric Arthur Blair, born 25 June 1903, died 21 January 1950”; no mention is made on the gravestone of his more famous pen-name.
